I just love daisies, don’t you? I have some growing in my garden which I’m sure will make their appearance here some day. These, however, are from the grocery store. You can buy a bit of beauty for only $4.28.
Daisies remind me of simple times and simple pleasures. A few years ago, I came across these verses in I Thessalonians 4:11-12.
… and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life:
You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as
we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders
and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
Ed and I made this one of our family verses. We’ve tried to rid our lives and our children’s lives of lots of extra activities that take us all out of the home and away from each other. It’s now become a family habit, but there have been many times over the years where we have thought something seemed like a good idea and we have asked “Does this make our lives simple and quiet or busy and complicated?” I feel like I have so much freedom when these questions are answered.
I’ve always wanted my children to have time to be bored. I believe that when you have enough time to be bored, your creativity will be sparked. Children and adults alike will be able to explore, build, create, read, and write. There is time to rest and not be rushed. Their is time to be quiet and time to contemplate.
It’s so easy to forget this ideal of simplicity. I’ll find myself busy, rushing around, exhausted. After all, life makes its demands. Flowers are sometimes just what it takes to remind me, cliche as it is, to stop and smell the roses. What about you? Do you desire more simplicity? Do you have any tips for Beauty Observed readers to help us slow down?

I do enjoy seeing the projects my 7 year old comes up with when he “has time to be bored.” He has a great imagination in creating his own books and making crafts out of construction paper.
I frequently describe myself as not knowing how to be bored. In the past when I have had an onset of free time due to job layoffs, I have immediately filled that time by taking on big projects like going to grad school and starting a blog.
Dawn,
It is amazing what our kids will create when given a little “bored” time.
Starting a blog is definitely a big project. Hopefully, it’s letting you be a little creative 😉
I really like your position on being bored. I agree those are the times when wonderful, creative juices flow! Your daisy captures are stunning!
Thank you for the kind words about the daisies!
Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting! I hope you have many days of creativity!
Beautiful!
Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting, Elizabeth! I’ve enjoyed following you on instagram! I am challenged by your wonderful Bible study notes!
Fondly,
Elizabeth
Ah, yes, simplicity and quiet have also been desires in my life. Sometimes I achieve both, or should I say, am blessed with both. Your daisies are beautiful. I just love the shimmer they have on their petals. They may be simple, but there is nothing plain about them. Thank you for sharing – have a blessed week!
June,
Thank you for your very kind comments. Aren’t those petals just stunning? Oh, the texture! And I agree, simple but not plain!
I hope you also have a blessed week,
Elizabeth
I love what you said about giving your children time to be bored. I often start to fret when my oldest is sitting around with nothing to do. But if she does it for long enough, she frequently gets our her paint and canvases and starts to create.
Jenn,
You know you mentioned a key component to being “bored” that I forgot to talk about in my post. Supplying wonderful books, art supplies, and the miscellaneous odd and end for imaginations to soar really helps!
Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting 🙂
Ahhh, love this post. The pictures are beautiful but I resonate with the words. I BELIEVE in white-space on the calendar, and family time. It is a high commodity in our household as well. It’s nice to fins a kindred spirit :-). As always thanks for linking.
Ahh. White space with my white daisies. lol
Yes, I’d say kindred spirits indeed!
Thanks so much for hosting the party every week!
Beautiful pics, just beautiful… Now I need to go get some daisies for my kitchen table 🙂
Thank you! Yes, daisies for the kitchen table just seem to make a kitchen smile 🙂
Daises remind me of my grandmother! Beautiful!
Barbie,
What a lovely thought! I’m glad you told me they reminded you of your grandmother!
Narcissus remind me of my grandma.
My kids have both got websites and twitter accounts for raising awareness about social justice, cancer cures, gender issues and other issues and when they get ‘bored’ I tell them to get active on social media. They have realized that social media can be used for good and not for evil!
Thanks for sharing your post at the Say G’day Saturday linky party. I will be featuring this post this weekend.
Best wishes,
Natasha in Oz
Thank you so much, Natasha!! Truly!
Yes, getting active for causes we believe in can be very good for curing boredom!
