What I Learned in January

7 things I learned in January at Beauty Observed. jadeite Fireking bowl

1.) Our church held a corporate fast.
I learned that I like my new church even more than I thought I did.

2.) My husband was laid off for a couple of days.
I learned that you can get a lot of extra work done when your husband is home unexpectedly for two days in a row.  It’s even better when those two days are Thursday and Friday so that you have a four day weekend!

3.) I took a blogging class online from Blogelina.
I’m still making it through all of the notes but I learned so much already.  The best thing about the class I took was the question and answer time at the end.  I also made some new friends.  (waving wildly at my new friends from the Blogelina class.)

4.) I worked on few new recipes for the blog.
I learned that recipe photography is hard.

5.) I purchased clementines for the first time.
I learned that my family LOVES them.   I can’t keep them in stock.  They are just the perfect size for a little snack and so easy to peel.

6.) I made cabbage rolls for the first time.
I learned that all these years (26) that I’ve been making meat loaf, my husband really wanted cabbage rolls.  He just never told me until about three weeks ago.  As you may have noticed on my menu plans on my How Fun! posts, it’s been appearing every week since.

7.) I started hosting Link-Up parties.
I learned about many new blogs and have enjoyed seeing the beauty that they have to share.  I am so grateful for all of you that have been linking-up each Friday!  Thank you so much!

I’m glad you picked up on the optimism. I realized that I was letting fear creep in when he got laid of. I am trying to really banish fear from my life. We decided to work all weekend on things that needed done on the blog and around the house instead of playing the “what if” game.

I discovered a love for Clementines this past year too. 🙂 Love your photos and I always enjoy these month end posts.
Blessings to you. Delighted to have connected in this beautiful blogging world.

I wonder if they are starting to market clementines more effectively? The seem to be everywhere. Thank you for the compliment on the photos. I have the clementines in a jadeite bowl that was my grandma’s. It sits on the kitchen counter. It just looked so inviting the other day 🙂

I’m also glad that we’ve connected. I thought about you yesterday. Super Bowl seems so masculine and I thought about your husband being deployed. I hope that you were able to find some joy yesterday. Thank you for your sacrifice. I’m praying for you.

I love this…what a fun way to recap the month. And I love the photos – such a simple subject and unique way to tie them into the post.

What did I learn in January?

I learned that I like teaching 4-5 year olds at church. I learned that my little girl, who recently turned 9, isn’t a little girl anymore….she’s changing. I learned that my soul needs beauty. I learned that God wants to me to life WITH him – not for him, from him. under him or over him. I also learned how much I love daily instagram prompts and how much they stretch my creativity.

I like your list of things you learned in January.
4-5 year olds are awesome at church. My husband and I used to teach that same age when we were newly married.
9 is such a great age, but it gets here so fast, doesn’t it?
Oh, how my soul needs beauty, too!

I keep reading about your instagram prompts. I don’t have any device that I can download instagram on. They’ve left me in the dust. lol

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting 🙂

I bet the clementines that you are able to eat are much better than the ones we get here in the grocery stores. Do you have clementine trees in yards or are they mostly in growers’ groves?

I look forward to you linking up again!

I loved reading this post! I’m waving back at you to 🙂 I also love that you jumped right in creating your own link up party.

I don’t think I have ever had a clementine, but now I want one because your pictures are so amazing. How would you describe a clementine to a newbie like me? How does it compare to an orange?

Waves again 🙂 Please feel free to come and link-up. It’s fun!

Great question about the clementines! A clementine is seedless and very easy to peel. It is a hybrid between a mandarin orange and an orange. They are less acidic than an orange and very mild. Clementines are smaller than an apple. The two brands that are around here are Cutie and Halo.
