I just love daisies, don’t you?  I have some growing in my garden which I’m sure will make their appearance here some day.  These, however, are from the grocery store.  You can buy a bit of beauty for only $4.28.

Daisies remind me of simple times and simple pleasures.  A few years ago, I came across these verses in I Thessalonians 4:11-12.

… and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life:
You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as
we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders
and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Ed and I made this one of our family verses.  We’ve tried to rid our lives and our children’s lives of lots of extra activities that take us all out of the home and away from each other.  It’s now become a family habit, but there have been many times over the years where we have thought something seemed like a good idea and we have asked  “Does this make our lives simple and quiet or busy and complicated?”  I feel like I have so much freedom when these questions are answered.

I’ve always wanted my children to have time to be bored.  I believe that when you have enough time to be bored, your creativity will be sparked.  Children and adults alike will be able to explore, build, create, read, and write.  There is time to rest and not be rushed.  Their is time to be quiet and time to contemplate.

It’s so easy to forget this ideal of simplicity.  I’ll find myself busy, rushing around, exhausted.  After all, life makes its demands. Flowers are sometimes just what it takes to remind me, cliche as it is, to stop and smell the roses.  What about you?  Do you desire more simplicity?  Do you have any tips for Beauty Observed readers to help us slow down?
