About

aboutCATA little about myself and my vision for Beauty Observed.

I still remember the photograph I took that day. I was doing the dishes in the old porcelain sink filled with warm soapy water. The sun was shining through the white curtained windows. I watched as dappled light reflected off the silverware and I saw it. Beauty. Beauty lying right there in the midst of the ordinary. And I took a picture of it. Yes, silverware…

Modern life leaves little room for shadows splayed across the walls and reflections of light dancing on the ceiling. When the picture of the silverware was developed, someone said to me, “Why would you take a picture of silverware?” The comment made me feel sad, but it didn’t deter me from looking for and finding beauty everyday.

I’ve tried to teach my children this trait. I want them to see the beauty that God has gifted us with. It’s everywhere. Dust motes floating in a sunbeam. A ladybug perched on the end of a leaf. One only has to stop and look.

I’ve been married for almost 35 years and am the mother of three adult children. I  home educated my children for over 23 years. I exposed them to Grace, beauty, good literature, art, and a slowed-down lifestyle where they were free to explore God’s love and who He created them to be.

I use the Canon SX50. It’s easy to use and provides consistent results.

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS I’ve used a point and shoot for years transitioning from film to digital.  I outgrew my last camera and decided to upgrade to this “bridge” camera.  I’m in love with it!   It’s very user friendly and provides consistent results. Except where noted, all of the pictures on my site have been taken with the Canon  and usually have only minimal retouching done to them by my husband using Photoshop.
