How Fun! Vol. 32 Happy 4th of July

how-fun-2

“How fun!” I find myself exclaiming this many times throughout the week. Here are just a few things that touched me or made me smile:

Let Freedom Ring

Happy 4th of July!  I hope you have wonderful things planned for the day!  I like to take a little time to read through the Constitution of the United States.  I will confess that I don’t always make it all the way through, but it’s a good goal for the day.

Red, white, and blue American flag

*The photos used in this post where taken of the flag flying next to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC.

Didn’t Ed do a fantastic job taking over hosting the blog while I was gone?  I have my very own guest poster at my disposal.  I think he’s a better blogger than I am. Don’t answer that 😉

I enjoyed my trip to visit my daughter, Amy, in the Washington DC area.  I was able to help her pack up her classroom. (She’s a high school English teacher.)  We ate in some of her favorite restaurants. I found that I.LOVE.Indian food!   I was able to see a few of the historical sites.  I rode the bus and the Metro.  We took an Amtrak train home to Ohio.  That was quite the adventure!  I’m so happy that Amy will be staying with us until August.  There’s no place like home and there’s nothing like having all of your chicks gathered in under the same roof!

I’m glad to hear you had a great time in DC! You picked a good time to go and get out before everyone rushes to the city to see fireworks. Although it would be pretty awesome to see the fireworks in DC. I think they are televised and we are going to record them to watch later this weekend 🙂

      Dawn,

It did feel very special to be there at this time. We have a wedding tomorrow or we would have stayed to see the fireworks. Amy showed me where she was during the Inauguration which was very neat! Enjoy the fireworks!

Oh, what a wonderful trip for you and your daughter.
I have lived in DC twice in my life: once as a girl and the second time as a teacher in the DCPS as a K-1 teacher. I loved that job although it was the hardest teaching job I have ever had. BUT…so much love! I was in the SE quadrant of DC…a tough area.
And we recently buried my mother in Arlington with my father so that was a mighty privilege. I am so glad you had time to see some of DC. And what fun to take Amtrak home. How I would love to do that.
May your day be filled with the freedom we have in Christ, ~ linda

      Linda,

Thank you for your kind words. I enjoyed my time with my daughter so much.

Yes, I am sure that teaching in DC was tough. I worry about my daughter, but I know that God has her in the palm of His hand. DC is such an exciting area, but as you know there are also many needs there that can only be met through Christ.

I am sure that the time at Arlington was bitter sweet. What an honor to have them buried there.

I LOVED taking the train home and I can see why my daughter enjoys traveling this way. It seemed to go by so fast!

      Joanne,

Oh yes, wonderful memories with my daughter.

I’ll tell you a little secret. I think they all missed Mama’s cooking while I was gone. Eating out can only carry you so long. lol

I’m so glad that you had a great trip. That might be me next year because my daughter wants to go interstate for university! You will have to give me some coping tips!

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July. I love your patriotic pictures!

Best wishes and thanks for hosting!

      Natasha,

I have one word to help you cope! SKYPE (or FaceTime) It has been a life saver. There are many times that I have thought about the settlers, explorers, etc. and wondered how they managed when they never knew if they would see their loved ones again. Modern technology is a miracle!!

      Naomi,

Springtime in DC will be lovely, I’m sure. What a great time to visit! Will you be there for the cherry blossoms? My daughter says they are gorgeous! Hoping to see them some time.

Thanks for your comment! Have a wonderful week!
