The Beauty of First Things First

The Beauty of First Things First (bachelor's buttons)It’s the beginning of another month and I have so much I want to accomplish.  I’ve always been a list maker.  Sometimes, I spend so much time making my list that I run out of time to accomplish anything.  That’s why it is so important to put first things first.

One of the most important things we can do in any day is to spend as much time with God as we possibly can.  I need to fill up on His word, spend time praying, and give Him my day.  Thinking that other things are more important just leaves me harried and malnourished.  If I don’t fill up on the Daily Bread, I am left with a hunger that I will inevitably fill with something the world has to offer.  Malnourished indeed!

I’m sure we’ve all heard the story of time management pertaining to rocks, sand, water, and a container.  You put your rocks in the jar and you still have a little space.  Then you can add stones or gravel.  There will still be room in the jar.  Add some sand to fill in the spaces. Is the jar full yet?  No.  You can pour water over it all.  Using this analogy, the container represents your day and time with God would be one of the rocks that I want to put into my jar first.  The really neat thing about this analogy is that God is like the water, too.  He runs through and fills all of the empty spaces in my life!

You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1

What are these:  Perennial bachelor’s buttons

Where these pictures were taken:  In my backyard flower garden.

How I took them:  Squatting down on the sidewalk on one edge of my garden.

What to notice: There is so much going on with this flower!  You’ve got fuzzy leaves, spikey buds, amazing color, and feathery petals.  They are just so interesting to look at. (Remember, you can click on the photos to see them at full size.)

What they make me think about God or a scripture they remind me of:  I am again reminded of how incredibly creative God is.  It looks like He really enjoyed Himself when He made bachelor’s buttons!

Please feel free to tell me what you noticed, what they made you think about God, or a scripture they reminded you of.  Have a beautiful day!

I live amid dairy pastures and every morning I walk out onto the porch and look around; I can’t help but tell God that He did such a good job with everything!

I am a list maker too, and somedays when the list overwhelms I have to pray for God to show me which is a “first” priority for me to accomplish for him. Some days it is not to touch my list at all 🙂

Thanks for sharing your thoughts over at #EverydayJesus… And I love the crazy, cool, unique design of those flowers. God is so awesome!

This is so powerful! I love the truth of it and the timely reminder as Summer is approaching and my ‘normal’ routine gets mixed up a bit to keep Him first! I know this, but oh how I can forget!

Also – oh my goodness? Those photos are AMAZING!!!

Visiting from Barbies over at The Weekend Brew!

Bachelor buttons – The bud is encased so tightly, like the hugs of God that hold us tightly and then give us the courage and freedom to burst forth in liberty and joy, to give HIM the glory!
